Sizzlin’ Strings
For children entering grades 6–8
Sizzlin' Strings is a combination of a traditional and fun approach to learning string instruments. Students will learn basic rhythmic notation which can be used to create mathematical equations. Students will be encouraged to “draw” what they are hearing, they will also play musical games, color, dance, and learn fun facts about famous composers and performers such as Jessie Montgomery. Additionally, students will practice musical storytelling by creating compositions that tell their stories. Students will build community by learning to listen and play together as a musical team. For beginning students, the curriculum will start with an introduction to the string family followed by learning basic techniques. For intermediate players, students will be instructed on intermediate techniques such as ear training, producing a quality sound, vibrato, and reading intermediate level repertoire. Students must select either the cello or violin. Rental from William Harris Lee & Co. is a requirement to participate.
