Sizzlin’ Strings
For children entering grades 3–5
Sizzlin' Strings is a combination of a traditional and fun approach to learning string instruments. Students will learn basic rhythmic notation, which can be used to create mathematical equations. They will be encouraged to “draw” what they are hearing and play musical games, color, dance, and learn fun facts about famous composers and performers, such as Jessie Montgomery. Additionally, students will practice musical storytelling by creating compositions that tell their stories. Students will build community by learning to listen and play together as a musical team. Beginning students will be introduced to the string family and basic techniques, while intermediate players will focus on ear training, producing quality sound, vibrato, and reading intermediate-level repertoire. Children must select either the cello or violin. Rental from William Harris Lee & Co. is a requirement to participate.
