Directors’ Workshop
For children entering grade 5-8
This workshop introduces students to filmmaking concepts and techniques through practical exercises. Students will write, shoot, or edit every day! Each day begins with a lesson, covering topics like screenwriting, acting, cinematography, lighting, and post-production. Lessons are discussion-based, with students encouraged to bring in their favorite scenes so we can analyze the craft and technique together. The second hour is devoted to project-based learning. Students write scenes, compose storyboards, act (and learn how to give helpful direction), and practice on-set roles like director of photography, gaffer, and more. Students will work together to make narrative short films. On the last day of class, we will host a film festival where our young directors will debut their movies and show their progress.
