Chess for Young Thinkers

For children entering grades 1–2

Chess is an exciting and dynamic sport to learn and participate in. This program will provide professional instruction, starting with the fundamentals and advancing to more complex strategies. Beginners will learn the fundamentals of the sport and move into game playing openings and tactics for all parts of the game. The opening theory will be provided and discussed. Continuing students will enhance their skill set with new openings, strategies for the middle game, and combinations for the endgame. The endgame combinations, leading to check and checkmate, will be stressed and practiced throughout the program. The advanced players will continue to grow their skills by studying world famous games, positions, and thought processes for a greater understanding of the sport and for greater success with their own games.
