Change Makers: Writing with a Voice for Impact
For children entering grades 6–8
This course empowers students to learn how to advocate for themselves confidently through writing, which will prepare them for opinion and essay writing they can use academically and in real-world scenarios. They will learn persuasive writing techniques, how to format and structure essays, and strategies for building logical arguments, which will improve their critical thinking and communication skills. Each student will complete a polished opinion piece that will showcase their ability to create compelling arguments for topics they are passionate about (e.g., Should middle schoolers still have recess?), distinguish credible supporting evidence, and learn how to keep their readers engaged. The class will cover the same content each session, and we recommend only registering for this class one time.
