Big Planet, Small Scientists

For children entering grades 1–2

Campers will become citizen scientists this summer as they study local wildlife, plant life and the environment! During their exploration of biodiversity in our community, they will develop an explorer’s mindset by collecting data from our local ecosystem to aid real scientists in their research. Citizen scientists will visit the Blue Paradox exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry to learn about the effects of plastic pollution. They will also go to Jackson Park's Wooded Isle to gather information about our local environment and explore possible call-to-action campaigns that can encourage the community to address our contribution to environmental health. Campers will choose a citizen science project to gather information that will help real scientists answer questions to solve issues on a global level. The class will cover the same content each session, and we recommend only registering for this class one time.
