Description

Portraits and Selfies, Figures and Faces of the People We See

For children entering grades 3–5

One great thing about drawing and painting bodies and faces is that everyone has one! From Keith Haring’s dancing figures to Egyptian tomb paintings to the characters in your favorite graphic novels, there’s a wealth of inspiration to draw from. One major focus of this class is proportion: there is a bit of math involved as we map out where everything belongs. Don’t let that scare you, students will learn about brushwork, line weight, and ways to make their artworks expressive through facial expressions and posture. By the end of class, each student can expect to have a series of sketches and drawings, as well as one painting on canvas.
