Description

Hands-on Math

For children entering grades 1–2

Hands-on Math provides fun, multi-sensory activities to help young minds develop early math skills and number sense. Projects include stringing beads on shoelaces to introduce skip-counting and early multiplication concepts; manipulating clay and fraction tiles to discuss fractions; exploring pattern blocks; solving addition and subtraction problems to create a class mural; and playing Money Bags, a coin-counting game, and other math-based board games. Each class begins with math-related story time. The instructor is a certified Learning Behavior Specialist, and the classroom is set up in learning stations to encourage student independence. Students also participate in whole-group games such as 100 Sit Down (counting by 10s) and Hello, Floor (other multiples). Hands-on Math is a great choice for the rising first- or second-grader who requires remediation or enrichment.
